Where our information comes from
Security company licensing rules are set by government, so government is our primary source. When we describe a requirement, we work from the material that actually governs it:

- State statutes and administrative code that define license types, qualifying experience, insurance, and training rules.
- Federal sources such as the IRS and SBA where entity, tax, or federal contracting rules apply.

Where a claim depends on an outside source, we link to a primary reference, favoring official .gov and .edu pages so you can read the rule at its source and confirm it yourself.
How we handle facts that vary by state
Requirements, agency names, fees, and timelines differ from state to state and county to county, and they change. Rather than print a single number that would be wrong somewhere, our guides and tools mark state variable and county variable facts as guided fill ins that point you to the office that sets them. We would rather tell you exactly which authority to confirm a fee with than guess at the fee.
Who writes and reviews our content
Our articles are researched, written, and edited by the GuardFirmReady Editorial Team, a group of writers and researchers who specialize in occupational licensing and small business operations. Every article carries this team byline and a published or updated date.
We are deliberate about what we are not.
